My Favorite Cinematic Wedding Looks Reimagined

I’ve been a sucker for weddings my entire life so it should come as no surprise that I’m also a sucker for any movie or TV episode that features a wedding. Over the years, dozens, if not hundreds of weddings ranging from photo shoots to extravagant to sweet and simple have been created for all sorts of storylines. These are some of my favorite looks if they were reimagined now.

The Parent Trap, 1998

Most might remember Elizabeth James’ (played by Natasha Richardson) stunning elopement piece at the end of the film but one of my all time favorite bridal looks has always been the ball gown and top hat piece put together in the photo shoot scene. Creative, avant garde, and individualistic; this look has always screamed high fashion to me.

The Runaway Bride

Julia Roberts plays Maggie Carpenter, a woman who has found herself engaged three separate times and runs away every time, prompting journalist, Graham, to do a story about her. Although she dons five different wedding dresses in the film; her final look on horseback is my favorite and in my opinion, the most romantic. A satin ball gown with lace appliques, Maggie finally chooses to stay.

Cinderella

Naturally a childhood favorite, watching Brandi become Cinderella in 1998’s Cinderella gave me all the feels as a child. The costumes, the songs, Whitney Houston; I was simply entranced. Cinderella eventually marries her Prince Charming in a perfectly hued blue, floral ball gown.

My Best Friend’s Wedding

Another Julia Roberts romcom, this film follows Julianne discovering her love for best friend, Michael (played by Dermot Mulroney). While Cameron Diaz dons the wedding gown in this film, you can’t deny the absolute stunning construction of puffed sleeves and crisp corners of her character’s look; something I still love even today.

Father of the Bride

One of my all time favorite films, Father of the Bride, is about a father coming to terms with his first born daughter growing up and getting married. It’s touching, it’s beautifully decorated, and it is downright hysterical. Annie marries Brian in a timeless gown with details such as a lace-trimmed neckline and satin ballgown skirt.

The Princess Bride

“As you wish” officially became the most swoon-worthy line of the late 80’s and The Princess Bride is why. Princess Buttercup dons a light-blue hued empire-waisted gown while forced to marry Prince Humperdinck and while he and his name are less than desirable, her wedding look is anything but.

Friends

Although we see several weddings during the ten season of Friends, my favorite has to be Monica and Chandler’s in season eight. Just like Monica, her dress was clean-cut, traditional, and overall classic satin gown with a deep v-neck and mermaid skirt.

Sex and the City

Miranda, one of the four main girls in Sex and the City, is the notorious anti-bride. Fully decided on never marrying, she eventually falls for Steve, the silly bartender completely opposite her in every way. When they do eventually decide to marry, the pair opt for a sweet autumn elopement in a park near their home; Miranda donning a simple but perfect-for-her burgundy velvet suit.
